Description
The Rockstead TEI (悌) is a hand-finished Japanese folding knife from one of the most respected names in the high-end custom knife world. Rockstead knives are built in small numbers in Sakai City, Osaka — the historic seat of Japanese bladesmithing — and each piece is individually registered and certified, as this example is, under registration number F-TZ-L123.
The blade is laminated construction: a ZDP-189 powder steel core at an exceptional 66.9 HRc, clad in VG-10 stainless at 60.8 HRc for added toughness and corrosion resistance. It’s ground in Rockstead’s signature Honzukuri style — a convex, mirror-polished grind traditionally used on Japanese swords, producing a razor-thin, exceptionally keen edge that’s become the brand’s hallmark.
The handle is machined from A6063S aluminum, hard-anodized to a durable black finish (Hv400), and set with genuine stingray leather panels for texture and grip. Clip and leaf spring are both SUS420J2 stainless at HRc50. This particular knife retains its original Rockstead specification certificate dated June 2014, confirming authenticity and full factory specifications — a significant value-add for collectors.
